Current Situation: Update 5:15 p.m. Resources committed overnight on the incident include two engines and two inmate fire crews. Hwy 243 is expected to re-open in both directions at approximately 7:30 p.m. Motorists are urged to use caution and yield to fire equipment working in the area. Update 3:03 p.m. - One firefighter was transported to an area hospital via air ambulance with heat exhaustion. Update 1:25 p.m. - CHP is escorting vehicles on Hwy 243 between Poppet Flats Rd. and Mt Edna Rd. Update 10:58 a.m. - Fire is 100% contained. One firefighters is being treated for minor injuries. Update 10:37 a.m. - The fire is now 45 acres and 80% contained. Update 9:30 a.m.: Fire is 12 acres and 25% contained. No structure threat. Hwy 243 is closed between Wesley and Poppet Flats Rd. Check the CHP website for updates on road closures at www.chp.ca.gov. Update 8:50 a.m. : No change in acreage. No injuries. Updates are posted as information is received from the Incident Commander. CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters are on scene of a 15 acre wildland fire south of Banning on Hwy 243 near Twin Pines Road. CHP has closed Old Banning/Idyllwild road and Poppet Flats Road. Updates will be posted as information becomes available.
