Update 8:33 a.m., October 2 - The fire was fully controlled at 8:00 a.m. this morning to 364 acres.
Update 6:30 p.m.: Fire is 100% contained. Full control still estimated for tomorrow (10/02/2012) at 8:00 a.m. No additional updates will be posted until tomorrow morning unless incident activity warrants otherwise overnight.
Update 11:00 a.m.: The fire area was flown this morning an remapped at a total of 364 acres (final size). The fire is 80% contained with full containment now expected by 8:00 p.m. this evening and full control by tomorrow morning (10/2/2012 at 8:00 a.m.). The cause of the fire was determined to be recreational shooting on BLM land.
Update 10/01/2012: Work continues by a day assignment consisting of 9 engines, 4 fire crews, 1 dozer, 3 water tenders and several fire officers. Due to the terrain and weather conditions (high temps, low relative humidity), full containment is now estimated some time this evening. Updates will continue to be posted as information is received from the incident.
Update 7:00 p.m.: The fire started and burned on an open area used for shooting on BLM land. Holding at 280 acres and 70% contained. Full containment expected by 10:00 a.m. October 1st, 2012.
Update 4:50 p.m.: One additional inmate firefighter will be transported for evaluation of non-life threatening injuries.
Update 4:00 p.m. Firefighters continue work to contain the fire. The cause of the fire was determined to be shooting. No one has been detained. One additional injury to an inmate firefighter transported for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Total injuries on the incident is now 3.
Update 1:25 p.m. - Fire mapped at 280 acres and 20% contained.
Update 12:50 p.m.: The fire is now 20% contained. One inmate firefighter is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Total injuries to date: 2
Update 10:45 p.m.: Fire is 5% contained. No estimation on full containment.
Update 9:25 a.m.: A structure threat now exists for a handful of homes on the northwest side of the fire. No evacuations have been ordered. Updates will be posted as information becomes available.
Update 7:32 a.m. September 30th - The Incident Commander reported the fire is now approximately 300 acres, 0% contained. The fire is burning in a remote area. No structures are threatened. Last evening, (Sept. 29th), one outbuilding and a few abandoned vehicles were destroyed. Day assignment for September 30th consists of one air attack, three helicopters, four air tankers, 25 engines, 10 handcrews and seven overhead personnel for a total of 240 firefighters. Updates will be posted as information becomes available.
Update 12:19 a.m. - Per the Incident Commander, a firefighter sustained injuries to a lower extremity and was hoist rescued by Copter 19 from LA County Fire Department to an area hospital.
Update 9:32 p.m. - Per the Incident Commander, the fire is approximately 50 acres, 0% contained. No injuries reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation. CAL FIRE/Riverside County firefighters responded to a wildland fire in Banning(33.885278, -116.895000). The fire is approximately six acres in rugged, steep terrain burning uphill at a moderate to rapid rate. No structure threat. Current weather: 78 degrees, 27% RH, WNW winds at 8 gusting to 17 MPH.
