Final Update 7:15 p.m.: The American Red Cross is assisting with two families displaced from two units (8 adults and 3 children). The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Update 6:16: CORRECTION on displaced persons: The American Red Cross has been requested by the Incident Commander to assist four adults displaced from an adjacent apartment.
Update 6:05 p.m. - 2nd alarm assignment released by Incident Commander. Fire contained to one downstairs, unoccupied apartment that was destroyed. Some smoke damage to one upstairs apartment, however, no one injured and no one displaced. Firefighters will remain on scene approximately 1 1/2 hours for overhaul. CAL FIRE Investigators on scene working to determine cause.
Update 5:48 p.m.: Fire knocked down. All resourced will remain at the scene, checking for extension into adjacent units.
CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters are on scene of a multi-family dwelling structure fire at the 82400 Block of Requa Avenue in Indio. First arriving engine company reported smoke and flames visible from a ground floor apartment with evacuations in progress. A second alarm assignment is en route to the incident. Updates will be posted as information becomes available. |
