FINAL UPDATE 6:00 p.m. 03/03/2013: Fire declared controlled. Cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Update 7:25 a.m. 3/3/3013: Firefighters will be patrolling the fire area throughout the day with full control expected by 6:00 p.m. this evening.
Update 6:30 p.m. Fire 100% contained at 6:00 p.m. this evening. Full control estimated for 3/3/2013 at 6:00 p.m.
Update 3/2/2013 7:00 a.m. Fire is now 80% contained with no change in acreage. Full containment still estimated by 8:00 p.m. this evening. Day assignment will consiste of 6 engines, 2 fire crews and 2 water tenders.

Update 5:20 p.m.: Fire is now 60% and remains at 311 acres. contained. Full containment estimated 3/02/2013 at 8:00 p.m.
Update 12:47 p.m. - The forward rate of spread has stopped. Still 311 acres, 40% contained. Current weather: 83 degrees, 5% RH, windsNE at 10-15 MPH, gusting at 20-25 MPH.
Update and Correction 11:46 - The fire is 311 acres, 40% contained
Update 11:30 a.m. - The fire is now 350 acres, 40% contained.
Update 10:51 a.m. - 200 acres, 40% contained.
Update 10:26 - The fire is still holding at 200 acres, 30% contained.
Update 6:45 a.m. Incident Command Post for the media is located at Rio Road and Calle Hermosa. Day assignment for today includes 20 engines, 1 dozer, 1 copter, eight fire crews and eight overhead.
Update 4:10 a.m. 3/1/2013: Fire is 200 acres and 30% contained. Power has been restored to affected Riverside City residents. Firefighters worked through the night with a day assignment in place for today. Updates will continue to be posted as information becomes available. Please refer to our website for updates as no PIO is on scene.

Update 11:15 p.m.: Fire remains 150 acres and 20% contained.
Unless significant activity on the incident occurs overnight, the next incident update will be posted at 08:00 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013. Voluntary evacuation orders have been lifted. One structure and one out building damaged. No injuries reported.
Update 9:45 p.m. Acreage burned remains at 150 and 20% contained. Firefighters will remain at the scene throughout the night with a day assignment planned for tomorrow. Approximately 1,846 Riverside City residents are without power. Riverside City Public Utilities are aware of the outage and working to correct the problem.
Update and Correction 9:24 p.m. - Evacuations are voluntary.
Update 8:45 p.m. Fire is approximately 150 acres.
Update 7:30 p.m. Fire is now 20% contained, winds are calm. No estimation on full containment or control.
Update 6:50 p.m. Fire is now 50-75 acres. Voluntary (corrected from "mandatory" evacuations per Riverside City Fire Dept.) evacuations on Greenbrier Drive and Grassy Trail in the CITY of Riverside. Evacuation site by Riverside City at Nichols Park located at 5505 Dewey Ave. Orange County Fire Authority also assisting. Captain Lucas Spelman is the Fire Information Officer assigned and is on scene at Rio Road and Calle Hermosa. Additional updates will be posted as information becomes available.
Update 5:45 p.m. Murrieta Fire Protection District, Morongo Fire Department and Pechanga Fire Department also assisting. Fire is 50 acres.
CAL FIRE/Riverside County Firefighters along with assistance from Riverside City and Corona City fire are working to extinguish a vegetation fire in the Santa Ana riverbottom. Powerlines are also down in the area. The fire is approximately 10 acres in size burning in heavy fuels. Updates will be posted as information becomes available. |
