Mountain Area Safety Taskforce to Conduct Drill |
Full Text:
Agencies responsible for emergency response in the San Jacinto Mountain area will be conducting a drill on Wednesday, June 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants include CDF, Riverside County Fire, Idyllwild Fire, US Forest Service, Riverside County Sheriff¿s Department, CHP, and Riverside County Office of Emergency Services. The drill will simulate a fire situation and is designed to test the Mountain Area Safety Taskforce (MAST) planning efforts, including response and evacuation capabilities, mutual-aid, and unified command operations. The location of the drill will be at the Idyllwild Fire Protection District Headquarters. This is not a live fire drill.
The drill scenario will simulate a fast spreading wildfire that immediately threatens several mountain area communities requiring a multi-agency response. Part of the drill will involve simulated evacuations to test the MAST evacuation planning efforts. In addition, there will be simulated threatened homes and communities requiring fire agency structural protection efforts. Fire company evolutions will include simulated perimeter control efforts and structure protection deployment.
The drill will have two phases. Phase I includes the incident managers and the evacuation portion of the drill. Phase II will include all fire department resources. The execution of the evacuation and fire response drills will depend on resource availability due to other emergencies.
