Riverside County Hiking Areas Recommended For Closure

Riverside County Fire Chief John Hawkins will recommend to the Riverside County Board of Supervisors to immediately close several hiking areas within Riverside County due to hazardous fire conditions.

Chief Hawkins will make his recommendation to the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. at the County Administrative Center, 4080 Lemon St., Riverside.

The Riverside County unincorporated areas recommended for closure are:

Avery Canyon, (Gibbel Road east of State St. in Hemet)

North Mountain and Indian Canyon (San Jacinto area)

Whitewater Canyon (Cabazon, north of Palm Springs)

Nuevo/Lakeview (East of Menifee Road and San Jacinto Ave.)

Minto (Sage)

Reinhardt Canyon (North of Hwy 74 and California Ave. Hemet)

Ramona Bowl and Bautista Canyon (Southeast Hemet)
