Full Text:
Riverside County Fire Department Chief John R. Hawkins in cooperation with 9-1-1 for Kids cordially invite the media to attend our second 9-1-1 Local Heroes Award Ceremony. The event will take place on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Yard House Restaurant, located at The River,
71800 Highway 111 in Rancho Mirage. Media may arrive at 8:45 a.m. for set-up. Our audio/video technician will be present at the awards ceremony to assist with set up and technical support. Fire officials, recipients and 9-1-1 for Kids staff will be available for interviews.
Riverside County adopted the 9-1-1 for Kids educational program in September 2008. Fire station personnel and the Public Affairs, Information and Education Bureau are well on their way to teaching this informative and interactive program to nearly 56,000 Kindergarten through second grade children attending public schools in the Riverside County Fire Department service area. The program instructs school-age children on when and how to utilize the 9-1-1 system in the event of an emergency.
Another feature of the 9-1-1 for Kids program is the 9-1-1 Local Heroes award program. We are very proud of two students we will be honoring at this ceremony. These youngsters correctly used the 9-1-1 system to report medical emergencies and were instrumental in providing public safety dispatchers accurate information to dispatch firefighters and paramedics to the scene.
These events not only recognize the heroic acts of young children, but also provide a wonderful opportunity for community awareness through human-interest stories.
We would be most pleased if you are able to join us and look forward to seeing you Wednesday.
