Subject: County OES Hosts 2010 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Refresher
Full Text:

The Riverside County Operational Area Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program managers cordially invite media representatives to cover our CERT Refresher Day on Saturday, March 13th, 2010. The program begins at 9:00 a.m. and concludes at 1:00 p.m. Media may begin set-up at 8:30 a.m. The training will be held at the Roy Wilson Training Center, located at 31920 Robert Road in Thousand Palms.

The cornerstone of the Riverside County Fire Department Office of Emergency Services (County OES) is to prepare communities for disasters. Immediately following the onset of a worse case disaster, public safety emergency responders may be initially challenged in meeting all of the community demands for service. CERT programs train community members who volunteer their time to become a supplemental emergency responder in their neighborhood until public safety personnel arrive.

Volunteer CERT teams are supported in 19 jurisdictions throughout Riverside County. As part of their refresher training, the CERT graduates review their skills learned in disaster preparedness, disaster fire suppression, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue operations, and psychology and team organization.

We encourage and look forward to you covering this important event. In our disaster-prone demographic area in Riverside County, it is not a question of if a disaster, such as flood, earthquake, wildland fire or catastrophic event will strike; it is a question of when.

Please contact the Riverside County Office of Emergency Services to confirm attendance at (951) 955-4700. For additional information on CERT programs, please visit our website at www.rvcfire.org.
