Coachella Valley Firefighters Prepare for Wildfire Season |
Full Text:
Riverside County Firefighters from the Cities of Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, and Indian Wells will be participating in a training simulation to prepare for wildfire suppression during this summer season. Firefighters train all year around on various fire tactics to keep their skills sharp and learn new training methods. With the summer nearing, wildland fire suppression training becomes a priority for our local firefighters.
Wildland firefighting is physically demanding and extremely dangerous. Firefighters always need to be prepared for the unexpected when fighting a wildland fire. These simulated training drills will focus on firefighter safety in the wildland environment, to recognize and avoid unsafe circumstances, practice effective and safe tactics to employ on wildland fires, fire behavior, safety, evacuations, structure protection and working with our allied fire agencies in Riverside County. All drill training instructed is through series of hands-on classes conducted by fire company officers.
The Media is welcome to attend on Tuesday May 25, 2010 starting at 10:30 am. Media staging will be at Paisano Road and Cholla Road in the Cahuilla Hills, (TB 848-C6). Please RSVP your attendance to rrupio@fire.ca.gov or call our media information line at (951) 940-6985.
