Annual Weed Abatement Hazard Reduction Program |
Full Text:
Beginning in mid-April, property owners that have not cleared vacant parcels with overgrown weeds, dry grasses and other flammable vegetation will be receiving a Notice of Violation to Abate by the Riverside County Fire Department Hazard Abatement Office.
Fire personnel conduct annual hazard abatement inspections on vacant parcels within the Riverside County Fire Department unincorporated service area.
Record rainfall over the winter months will soon prompt rapid growth of trees, grasses and other vegetation. With summer approaching, hot temperatures and low relative humidity will quickly dry out vegetation, ultimately becoming a fire hazard. Property owners who receive these notices are required clear their cited parcel(s) of weeds and hazardous vegetation immediately.
For information on proper brush clearance, equipment use and safety when clearing vegetation, our website, www.rvcfire.org, provides links to laws, hazard abatement resources, such as landfill locations, clearance guidelines, County Ordinances and other useful information to property owners. For additional information on weed abatement for vacant parcels, call (951) 943-0640.
