GRAND OPENING FOR NEW LAKE MATHEWS FIRE STATION #4
1st District Supervisor Bob Buster, Riverside County Fire Chief John R. Hawkins, Economic Development Agency and Western Municipal Water District cordially invite you to attend the grand opening ceremony for the new Lake Mathews Fire Station #4 (formerly Cajalco Station #4).
The ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 14th, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at 16453 El Sobrante Road in Riverside near Mockingbird Canyon.
At an estimated cost of $5.5 million dollars through funding by Development Impact fees (DIF), the Fire Facilities Fund, and Ordinance 659.6., the new, state-of-the art facilities includes a two-apparatus bay, eight-person fire station that is fully expandable to accommodate three fire apparatus and up to 12 firefighters. Larger and modern facility design and construction provides environmentally safe living quarters and work area to replace the 2,866 square-foot old Cajalco Fire Station #4 built in 1950. The new fire station also meets LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
-The new Lake Mathews Fire Station highlights Riverside County¿s ongoing commitment to fire protection in our rural communities and it replaces an outdated station that was no longer meeting the local needs,- said 1st District Supervisor Bob Buster, who represents the area on the Board of Supervisors.
Buster said the location of the new station was much better suited for rapid response to fire and public safety emergencies, and he called the project a -cost-effective collaboration- between Riverside County and Western Municipal Water District that will provide a much-needed community meeting room for local activities.
-We have certainly realized the significant cost savings to each agency by the site partnership we have entered,- said Riverside County Fire Department Chief, John R. Hawkins. -The 9,400 square-foot fire station provides all essential service requirements placed on new construction, such as separate gender and handicapped restroom/shower facilities, semi-private sleeping quarters, decontamination room, cooking/dining area, physical training room and business offices.-
-Western Municipal Water District is so very pleased to have been able to partner with the Riverside County Fire Department at this new location, which serves two critical needs for the region ¿ fire protection and water resource management-, said Western Municipal Water District Board President, Brenda Dennstedt. -We appreciate the opportunity to work together on regionally smart projects that make great use of local resources and bring cost-saving benefits to the residents of Riverside County.-
